Advanced Water Purification Facility Construction
The Advanced Water Purification Facility, or AWPF, will be the heart of the Pure Water Project Las Virgenes-Triunfo. Located on Agoura Road in the City of Agoura Hills, the facility will use proven advanced purification technology to transform surplus recycled water into a safe, reliable, and locally controlled water supply for the region.
About the Facility and its Process
Recycled water from the Tapia Water Reclamation Facility has already been treated through a multi-phase process that includes filtration and disinfection. At the AWPF, water will undergo additional purification using a multi-step advanced treatment process that includes membrane filtration, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet disinfection with advanced oxidation.
These technologies work together to purify recycled water to meet or exceed drinking water standards set by the State of California. The process is currently being piloted and demonstrated at the Pure Water Project Demonstration Facility, where community members can learn more about how the technology works and how purified recycled water will support long-term water reliability.
Once purified at the AWPF, the water will be blended with imported water at Las Virgenes Reservoir. It will then be retreated at the Westlake Filtration Plant before being delivered to homes and businesses.
As the central facility for the Pure Water Project, the AWPF will play a critical role in reducing dependence on imported water, making better use of local recycled water, and helping secure a more sustainable water future for the Las Virgenes-Triunfo service area.
